In the last decades, more and more pressure is placed on the industry in order to reduce their environmental footprint. The use of alternate mean of transport, such as train and boat, can reduce carbon emissions associated to goods’ delivery for a manufacturer. We propose a decision tool which supports environmental criteria, as well as transportation cost and delay. A study case is used to show different options of transportation of glulam produced in Quebec.
The results show how the optimized path is greatly influenced by the criterea (delivery time, delivery cost and carbon emission). Such a tool would allow a manufacturer to meet the specific needs of their customers by easily finding a compromise between these critereas.
