US: Automakers seeking ways to build interior storage in cars amid demand

Consumers in the US are demanding for interior storage in cars for them

to place items like handbags and sunglasses. That has got automakers

striving to offer such features, although the task does not appear to be

that simple. Based on a survey by Strategic Vision, some 65% of new-car

purchasers stated that interior storage is extremely or very important

when making a buying decision. Several methods to better assess storage

needs are used by designers for inspiration. General Motors, for instance,

deployed its members to the mall to survey the shapes and sizes of

sunglasses. Chrysler Group is rethinking the use of the glove compartment,

which drivers often waste to keep junk. Consumers are seeking for storage

space in which their items like costly tablets can be put away without

    sliding off the front seat.
